Seller safety???
In today’s Market, it pays to be safe. Even in a low crime state like Idaho. What the heck does that mean. Lets look at some safety issues for sellers when selling your home.
1. You are going to be letting strangers into your home! So for starters keep all jewelry and cash etc hidden away or better yet locked up some way. Most showings will be with a licensed agent, but small valuable items could disappear, so just to be safe keep all valuables safely stashed away from sticky fingers.
2. DON”T EVER LET ANYONE IN YOUR DOOR. Even an agent with an appointment!!!. Even if you are there, any one can get a business card. In Idaho the best security is to use the electronic lock box. All agents must go through an extensive fingerprinting and FBI back ground check. So even if the agent comes to the door and you are home, to be sure it is a legitimate agent, insist that they open the electronic lock box and retrieve the key that way. This also immediately sends an email to your listing agent giving your agent the email, name, phone number and brokerage that the showing agent is affiliated with. This way yo know they are legitimate, and who to contact if something should end up missing.
3. Never, Never, let unrepresented door knockers just come into your home, ” oh we were just driving by and wanted to see your home” don’t go for that one. Kindly tell them to contact your agent, and have them schedule with the professional. If they are serious buyers they will understand. These are just a few safety tips, for more, contact a professional Realtor, like me , I can help with these and other safety issues. And keep things locked up during the marketing period, you never know who may decide to drop back by when you are not around.
